This weeks phrase: “If you dare nothing, then when the day is over, nothing is all you will have gained.” ― Neil Gaiman, The Graveyard Book
Lilly told Eddie, “We’re not doing this tonight. This place is haunted.”
“If you dare nothing, then nothing is all you will have gained. Besides, think of the money.”
“It’s not worth it.”
“If you don’t go, the bet is off.”
“Then it’s off.”
Lilly finally agreed to go in, but with the condition that if she wanted to leave, they would leave. Eddie agreed. She knew all he wanted was the money. It would be nice, but the stories about that cemetery at night terrified her.
His friends watched as they entered the cemetery at midnight.
“Remember, one hour. That’s all we need to get the money,” Eddie said.
The mausoleum gate was open. They walked down the stairs and went inside. Lilly shivered. Something flew out at them. She screamed. “We’re leaving.”
“It’s just a trick my friends played on us.”
“You promised. We’re leaving.” Before she could get out, something cold passed through her and went into Eddie, tossing him around.
Lilly screamed and ran. She made it to the gate, but Eddie wasn’t behind her. His friends taunted her, but she didn’t care. She stared into the cemetery.
Eddie didn’t come out. He never came out.

Give it a try. You might be surprised at what you can compose.
Leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you.
Spooky cemetery at midnight? Nope, not even for money, LOL.
I’m glad Lily, at least, got out of there!
Maybe in my younger days. Definitely not today.
Looks like a prime place to spend eternity. That place is packed.
Ugh. Definitely Bob humor.
Chilling last line. I’d take that dare, I think. Cemeteries don’t scare me. Then again, I’ve never been to that one!
Thanks, Staci. I don’t mind cemeteries in the day time. At night, they tend to take on a life of their own.
Ack! No way, no how. Not even for a million dollars!
I agree. Day is okay. Night? I don’t think so.
This had such a creepy ending, Michele.
Thanks, Roberta. I enjoy a good suspense/thriller.
I love to explore cemeteries, but I can’t say I’d want to do it at midnight. Haunted or otherwise!
I like to explore as well. You can get a sense of names for the period. Also, some tombstones have a small story on them.
so Eddie got his just deserts for pushing her …
He did indeed. Thanks for stopping by.
