Penny stared at the pictures of Castle Berkshire in her grandfather’s photo album. He’d grown up near the castle and stayed there a few times before coming to America. He described the charm and elegance of the rooms and always said he wanted to go back and take Penny with him.
He died before he realized that dream. But Penny was determined to make the trip—for both of them. What’s another credit card charge. So she booked the cheapest room possible.
The castle was more beautiful than the pictures. And her room was perfect. Grandfather would have loved it.

Give it a try. You might be surprised at what you can compose.
Leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you.
I can see this one turning into a novel, too. It could become such an adventure! Or maybe the castle is haunted. Maybe she spreads his ashes there, and then…
You need to pick a story and start writing it, Michele. It’s time you release another novel.
Thanks, Staci. You are right, I do need to pick something and release another novel.
I would love taking that trip, too.
I agree with Staci. This one would really make an excellent story. This is my favorite of potential story lines so far!
Thanks, Mae. I do see the potential in this one as well.
I like the Dutch influence on the walls- beautiful room! I can see why Grandfather wanted Penny to see it 🙂
Glad you liked it, Jacquie. It is a beautiful room.
Nicely done, Michele. It’s too bad they didn’t get to make the trip together, but perhaps he was there in spirit. 🙂
Thanks, Diana. I am quite sure he is.
Very well done! <3
Thanks, Deborah. The picture was definitely inspiring.
