This weeks phrase: The rigid formality of the place suffocated her – Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray.
The guards crossed their swords forbidding her entry.
“Excuse me,” Miranda said.
They stood fast, only indicating a sign.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” She tried to get past.
Another guard appeared and took her by the arm. Miranda jerked away. The rigid formality of the place suffocated her.
Give it a try. You might be surprised at what you can compose.

Oh yes, I can just see the Guards standing menacingly there, it’s that kind of place, isn’t it. 🙂
Kristian, it certainly is. I’m glad you saw that too. That came to me immediately.
It worked well. 🙂
Funny that the pic is supposed to be intimidating. I found it soothing. It reminded me a little of the architecture at St. Gertrude’s. (I know our church doesn’t have the arches like that, but the columns and stately presence brought it to mind, and I found it comforting.)
This reminded me of one of the basilicas we visited in Italy. The guards there were more intimidating than anything.
The architecture is stunning. I could tour buildings like this for hours.
It does look very austere. I can hear footsteps echoing just by looking at the photo!
I agree. This picture can be viewed in so many different ways.
