This weeks phrase: and ne’er was a creature so true and so loyal
Eons pass.
Yet for him, time stands still.
Forced to observe. He stares.
Longs for more.
Detached from his mortal life.
Darkness falls.
A stone heart beats once more.
His body protests. He stands.
Ready to soar.
He fears taking that first step.
Wings unfurl.
He leaps into the night.
Falls toward earth. Wings spread.
He flies once more.
He’s free from his eternal personal prison.
Daylight nears.
Time draws short.
He must return now. He flies.
Curses the sun.
Another night goes by painfully fast.
She appears.
Something inside him stirs.
He yearns for night. At last.
He flies, searches.
Dawn breaks. He returns. Alone. Cursing again.
Time passes.
Still he searches for her.
Finally, they meet. They talk.
Dawn nears. He flees.
His curse is killing him. Freedom wanted.
They meet.
He confesses his secret.
Proclaims his love. They kiss.
His stone heart soars.
His for all eternity.
This story was inspired by, Love Set In Stone, written by Staci Troilo.
This story was written for the 50 word Thursday challenge, this week hosted by Teresa , The Haunted Wordsmith.
Give it a try. You might be surprised at what you can compose.
Leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you.
Aw. My work inspired you. That means so much to me. Thank you. <3
Thanks, Staci. I enjoy reading your novels. They are well written and thought provoking, filled with suspense, and some romance.
I wondered if Staci inspired this one. Nice work by the way.
Thanks, Craig. Yes she did. I enjoyed her book and this was a challenge I accepted to write a non-rhyming piece of poetry.
I love how you you used Staci’s story for inspiration. Well written and presented, Michele!
Thanks, Mae. Poetry isn’t in my wheelhouse, but I accepted a challenge to write a non-rhyming poem and this is what I came up with. I actually submitted a slightly different version of Timeless to a local publication and they accepted it.
That’s awesome, Michele. Congratulations!
Bravo! I liked that a lot. 🙂
Thanks, Kristian. Poetry does not come easily to me. But gargoyles are inspiring, as was the book I read that featured them.
🙂
Love this! Great how you used Staci’s story for inspriation.
Thanks, Joan. I’m very weak in creating poetry and it takes me a long time. But we only grow when we challenge ourselves.
I like the format of your poem and the metaphor. Very nice.
