This weeks phrase: Miss Wonderly murmured, “Thank you,” softly as before and sat down on the edge of the chair’s wooden seat.” – The Maltese Falcon – Dashiell Hammett.
James stood in the back looking toward the pulpit. Empty. Exactly as he liked it. No one to disturb him as he prayed. He slid into a pew at the back and bowed his head.
He’d only been there a few minutes before the door opened. Sighing, he continued to pray.
A man put his hand on James’ shoulder and murmured softly, “Thank you,” and sat down at the edge of the pew beside him.
James looked up. Irritated.
“God bless you, my son.” Then the man vanished.
James couldn’t believe it. Could that be the sign he prayed for?
