HUNTING

This story is prompted by Sue Vincent’s Daily Echo Thursday photo prompt:  #writephoto.

Ewdin waited for days in his tree stand and this is the first stag he’d seen. He took aim and fired. One shot and the stag went to the ground. He jumped down from the tree and walked over. You’ll do just fine. Marty will be pleased.

He worked quickly and got the stag into the bed of his truck.

He pulled out his phone. “Marty, I’ve got a good one. Meet me at the plant. I should be there in a few hours.”

“Great. I’ll be there.”

Edwin navigated the windy road up the hill carefully. The road was barely used, and he didn’t want to skid into a ditch. At least if he didn’t show up, Marty would know to look for him. After all, he had what Marty wanted. A huge stag. He looked in the rear-view mirror. The stag was magnificent.

A few hours later, he turned into the plant, and Marty was there to meet him.

“He’s a beauty. I’ll start processing him immediately.”

“Call me when you’re done. I’ll be back.”

A couple hours later he got the call.  He made his way down to the plant. As promised, the stag was ready.

“As usual, you have done a fine job. He’ll be ready in no time for Santa’s sleigh team.”
